Sd card doesn't read

My experience isn't going very well. I purchased the dash cam and it didn't have a SD card in the box but was on a road trip and wasn't going to turn around and had the worst of luck and my receipt flew out the window. I bought a card from the store but when I installed it the cam powers down . I thought I had to have yours so I bought it and it does same thing powers down and when I turn it back on it says install card while card is in. Please help.
